Sendero Luminoso Attacks on Mining Facilities
In 1986, the Peruvian Communist Party - Shining Path (PCP-SL) carried out a violent attack on the mining facilities in Vinchos, Peru. The attackers infiltrated the offices of the company, assassinating the manager, deputy manager, and mine superintendent, and subsequently detonated explosives at the concentrator plant, causing significant material damage. This attack led to the closure of the company and highlighted the ongoing threat posed by the PCP-SL in the region.
Sendero Luminoso realizó ataques armados contra instalaciones mineras, particularmente contra la empresa Vinchos donde ejecutaron al gerente, subgerente y superintendente de mina, para luego dinamitar la planta concentradora. Los terroristas ingresaban a las concentradoras bien armados, colocaban explosivos en equipos clave y detonaban artefactos en cadena, causando daños materiales irreparables. Tras estos ataques, Sendero Luminoso intentaba consolidar su presencia en los sindicatos mediante presión a dirigentes y distribución de comunicados sobre la lucha armada. Estos atentados provocaron el cierre de empresas mineras y llevaron a que Centromín Perú gestionara la instalación de una base militar en 1983 para proteger sus instalaciones.
