Installation of a Military Base in Vilcashuamán
In 1983, a military base was established in Vilcashuamán, Peru, following consultations led by President Fernando Belaunde. The base was intended to protect the local population amidst the conflict involving the Peruvian Communist Party - Shining Path (PCP-SL). The local population found themselves caught between the violence of the military and the insurgents, leading to a complex and dangerous situation.
En 1983, el presidente Fernando Belaunde Terry llegó a Vilcashuamán acompañado por el Ministro del Interior Gagliardi y el general de la Guardia Civil Humberto Catre. Durante su visita, Belaunde consultó a la población sobre la instalación de una "base de sinchis para proteger a la población". Como resultado de esta consulta, se instaló una base militar en Vilcashuamán. Esta instalación ocurrió en un contexto de creciente violencia donde la población quedó atrapada entre las acciones de Sendero Luminoso y las fuerzas militares.
