Declaration of Andahuaylas as an Emergency Zone
On August 6, 1982, the province of Andahuaylas in Apurímac, Peru, was declared an emergency zone due to the increasing activities of the PCP-PCP-SL. This declaration was part of the broader internal armed conflict in the region, which was concentrated in areas bordering Ayacucho. The PCP-PCP-SL's actions in Andahuaylas were part of their larger strategy in the region, which included Huancavelica and Ayacucho.
Durante el período inicial del conflicto armado interno en Apurímac, el accionar del PCP-SL se concentró en la provincia de Andahuaylas, que limita con el departamento de Ayacucho. Debido al acrecentamiento de las actividades subversivas, la provincia fue declarada zona de emergencia el 6 de agosto de 1982. Posteriormente, el 30 de diciembre del mismo año, se creó la provincia de Chincheros, dividiendo la antigua provincia de Andahuaylas.
