Attack on the Franciscan Mission in Cutivireni
On May 17, 1984, a group of subversives from the PCP-SL set fire to the Franciscan Mission in Cutivireni, along with a farm and several homes. The PCP-SL initially infiltrated the region through educators and local sympathizers, gradually gaining support among native communities. By 1988, they had established numerous Popular Committees and Support Bases in the valleys of the Ene and Tambo rivers.
El 17 de mayo de 1984 ocurrió un ataque que conmocionó a la población de Cutivireni. Un grupo de subversivos del PCP-SL incendió la Misión franciscana establecida en el lugar, así como una granja y algunas viviendas más. Este hecho se enmarcaba en la estrategia del PCP-SL de expandir su presencia en la región del río Ene y Río Tambo, utilizando profesores, colonos simpatizantes y profesores bilingües para lograr legitimidad entre las comunidades nativas.
