Official start of the return process of Asháninka communities in Río Tambo

Official start of the return of Asháninka communities to Río Tambo with more than 500 people, forced process without adequate conditions

On September 17, 1994, the process of returning the Asháninka communities to their places of origin in the district of Río Tambo officially began as part of a campaign promoted by the government to generate a psychosocial impact on the Peruvian population. The media called this event 'the great Asháninka march', which brought together approximately 500 people. However, in many cases it was a forced process, since at that time the necessary conditions did not exist to guarantee the life and social care of the returning communities.
