This denunciation was made two days after the news of the massacre, which occurred on August 18, 1993, was disseminated by several media outlets. The Congress of the Republic also called for an investigation and the identification of the perpetrators of the bloody events. The massacre had occurred when three Shining Path columns, each composed of approximately 70 settlers and natives, entered eight communities in the Tsiriari valley (six settlers and two Asháninka), resulting in multiple victims.
