Medical Record N°3343 of María Monteza - Evidence of pregnancy in detention

INPE medical record documenting María Monteza's condition as of July 14, 1993, showing that she was approximately 8.5 months pregnant in November 1992, coinciding with her period of detention and allegations of rape.

Medical Record No. 3343 of the Prison Health Directorate of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) documents the condition of María Magdalena Monteza Benavides on July 14, 1993, the date on which she gave birth to her daughter. This medical record, together with Medical Report No. 081 of the Maternal Perinatal Institute of the Ministry of Health, was used as evidence to determine that Monteza was approximately eight and a half months pregnant in November 1992. The conception was around the last days of October 1992, coinciding with the period of her clandestine detention and the allegations of rape by Army agents. This medical document was crucial to argue that María Monteza had been the victim of rape during her detention, although the military courts declared the case dismissed.
