Detention, torture and rape of María de la Cruz Pari
Maria de la Cruz Pari was arrested in February 1993 accused of belonging to the Shining Path and raped by DINCOTE agents during her interrogation between January 6 and 26. Police authorities denied the facts despite a congressional report confirming the rape.
Maria de la Cruz Pari, 20 years old, was arrested by the PIP along with twelve people accused of belonging to the special detachment of the People's Guerrilla Army of People's Relief of the Shining Path in February 1993. A report from the Congress of the Republic specified that Maria de la Cruz Pari was raped by DINCOTE agents who interrogated her between January 6 and 26 in the cells of the aforementioned division. According to her testimony, between January 7 and 10 she was taken to a beach near Lima, perhaps La Chira, where she was raped, lost consciousness and woke up when she was in the van on her way back. The then director general of the PNP, Victor Alva Plasencia, denied the facts, pointing out that the forensic medical examination showed no evidence of rape and that she was one month and fifteen days pregnant at the time of her arrest.
