Interrogation and rape of Maria de la Cruz Pari at DINCOTE
María de la Cruz Pari was raped by DINCOTE agents during her interrogation between January 6 and 26, 1993 in Lima. According to her testimony, she was taken to a beach where she was raped, although the police authorities denied the facts.
Maria de la Cruz Pari, 20 years old, was detained by the PIP along with twelve people accused of belonging to the special detachment of the People's Guerrilla Army of People's Relief of the Shining Path in February 1993. A report from the Congress of the Republic specified that Maria de la Cruz Pari was raped by DINCOTE agents who interrogated her between January 6 and 26 in the cells of the aforementioned division. Mrs. Pari said that between January 7 and 10 she was taken to a beach near Lima, perhaps La Chira, where she was raped and lost consciousness, waking up when she was in the van on her way back. The then director general of the PNP, Victor Alva Plasencia, denied the facts, pointing out that the forensic doctor's examination three days after the alleged rape showed no physical evidence, and that the woman was one month and fifteen days pregnant at the time of her arrest.
