Forensic Medical Certificate N°39050-L - Examination of María Magdalena Monteza Benavides

Forensic medical certificate issued on November 13, 1992 by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Peru to María Magdalena Monteza Benavides, who registered ecchymosis and swelling on her left knee. It was used in the judicial process related to allegations of torture and rape during her detention.

Forensic medical examination requested by DINCOTE to María Magdalena Monteza Benavides, issued by doctors Yolanda Cáceres Bocanegra and Judith Maguiña Romero of the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Peru. The examination showed ecchymosis and swelling in the left knee that did not require disability. This certificate was one of several medical examinations used in the judicial process to evaluate the allegations of torture and rape during his detention. The results indicated the presence of old injuries and tears, which was used by the War Council Chamber to deny the occurrence of rape, although the TRC considers that these results do not rule out rape considering the limitations of the 1992 legal medical examinations.
