Medical examination of María Magdalena Monteza Benavides by the National Police.

Forensic medical examination performed by the National Police on María Magdalena Monteza Benavides detected ecchymosis on her left knee. The results were later used to deny allegations of rape during her detention.

The medical examination performed by the Peruvian National Police on María Magdalena Monteza Benavides resulted in the presence of small ecchymosis on the left knee anterior face, considered as a recent injury, with no old injuries observed. Forensic Medicine Report No. 11605/92 concluded that the person presented signs of recent contusion in the left knee region. This examination was prepared by the Criminalistics Department of the Peruvian National Police and subscribed by two doctors of the National Police and the Inspector of the 1st Division of Special Forces. The results of this and other medical examinations were later used by the Permanent War Council Chamber to deny the occurrence of rape, although the TRC considers that these results do not rule out such a possibility since the 1992 medical examinations consisted of external examinations oriented according to the type of examination requested.
