Arbitrary detention and rape of María Magdalena Monteza Benavides in military installations
A 19-year-old university student was arbitrarily detained by members of the Army on October 30, 1992 and subjected to torture and rape during four days of clandestine detention and became pregnant. She was transferred to DINCOTE on November 3 where she incriminated herself under threat.
María Magdalena Monteza Benavides, a 19-year-old sociology student, was arbitrarily detained on October 30, 1992 by members of the Intelligence Department of the 1st Division of the Army Special Forces, without a court order or notification to the Public Prosecutor's Office. During her clandestine detention, she was subjected to blindfolded interrogations, physical torture and rape by her captors as a method of torture. On November 3, 1992, four days after her capture, she was handed over to DINCOTE, where she incriminated herself under threat of reprisals against her family if she denounced the torture and rape she had suffered. As a result of the rape, Magdalena became pregnant.
