March for Peace in Miraflores

The March for Peace was called by the municipality of Miraflores in response to the simultaneous attacks that occurred during the trekking escalation of July 1992. The march was attended by the Minister of Economy, members of the Executive and former parliamentarians. This event took place a few days after the devastating car bombing in Tarata Street on July 16, 1992, which caused 23 deaths and more than 100 wounded in the middle of the commercial center of Miraflores. The march represented one of the few civil society initiatives in the 1990s to consolidate a front for peace, in a context where the ruling classes and residents of the residential financial districts of the capital's downtown felt directly attacked by the violence.
