On July 18, 1992, university students from La Cantuta were assassinated, accused as terrorists by intelligence agents and the troops installed in the university. This event took place in the context of the militarized intervention of the university since 1991, when military bases were installed in La Cantuta, Huaycán and Raucana. The military bases ended up diluting the Shining Path strategies by combining civic actions with open repression. This murder of UNE La Cantuta students was part of the serious aftermath of the repression suffered by the inhabitants in the context of militarization and social control of daily life.
