In July 1992, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso raided the community of Pallcca, an annex of the Sacsamarca district in the province of Huancasancos, and killed 8 people. This event occurred in the context of the latest episodes of violence in Zone I of the south central region, shortly after the Challhuamayo ambush in June of the same year where 17 people were killed, including civilian and military authorities. These murders were part of the PCP-SL strategy of attacking those who tried to organize Self-Defense Committees and returnees who established relations with the Peruvian Army and the State.
