On June 5, 1992, a PCP-Sendero Luminoso truck bomb exploded in front of the Channel 2 facilities in Lima. The explosion completely destroyed the television channel's facilities and caused the death of three channel workers. This attack was part of the PCP-SL's escalation of violence in Lima during the period of "strategic balance", when the subversive organization intensified its actions in the capital in order to demonstrate its capacity to attack and generate terror among the population. The attack occurred just three months before the capture of Abimael Guzmán in September 1992.
