On May 13, 1992, a contingent of the PCP-SL entered the town of Chupaca, in the district of Paucartambo. During this incursion, the Shining Path militants slit the throats of villagers and also murdered Alberto Miranda Córdova and Porfirio Fuero Anco. This action was part of a series of violent raids that the PCP-SL carried out in May 1992 in several districts of Pasco and Junin, as a 'caravan of terror' against the local authority system. The day before, February 2, 1992, there had already been a massacre in Tambillo, Auquimarca and Huallamayo where 21 people were killed, mostly local authorities.
