Arrest of congressional presidents following coup d'état

On April 5, 1992, after Fujimori's self-coup that dissolved the Congress, the presidents of the Senate Felipe Osterling Parodi and of the Chamber of Deputies Roberto Ramírez del Villar were arrested at their homes. This arrest was part of the actions to consolidate the so-called 'Emergency and National Reconstruction Government'.

On April 5, 1992, President Alberto Fujimori Fujimori, with the support of the forces of law and order, announced the dissolution of the National Parliament and the total reorganization of the Judiciary. As part of this coup d'état, the president of the Senate, Felipe Osterling Parodi, and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberto Ramírez del Villar, were arrested at their respective homes. This event marked the beginning of the so-called 'Emergency and National Reconstruction Government'. The arrest of both presidents of Congress was a direct action to neutralize the parliamentary opposition to the self-coup.
