Capture of Peter Cárdenas Schultz

Peter Cardenas Schultz, leader of the MRTA, was captured in April 1992 in Raucana during a confrontation that left 3 villagers dead. His capture occurred in the same month as Fujimori's self-coup.

Peter Cardenas Schultz, one of the leaders of the MRTA (Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement), was captured in April 1992 in Raucana. This occurred in the same month as the April 5, 1992 coup d'état carried out by President Alberto Fujimori. During a confrontation in Raucana, 3 villagers were killed and Cardenas Schultz was captured. This capture was part of the increased counter-subversive strategy that characterized that period, in a context of military polarization that also included the massacres at the Canto Grande prison and the kidnapping and disappearance of a professor and nine students from La Cantuta.
