Approximately 150 subversives attacked the Pichanaki police post in March 1992. The attack resulted in 1 police officer dead and 3 wounded Sinchis. This attack took place in a context of maximum violence in the region during 1992, when dynamite attacks, blackouts, sabotage, assassinations, disappearances, extrajudicial executions, arbitrary detentions and guerrilla combat were daily occurrences. The MRTA had established a presence in the districts of Perené and Pichanaki in Chanchamayo after withdrawing from other areas.
