On February 2, 1992, a PCP-SL contingent of approximately 50 men carried out a series of violent raids in several towns. In Huallamayo, Juan Córdova and three of his sons were murdered for promoting the organization of a peasant patrol. This action was part of a caravan of terror that attacked multiple towns that same day, including Tambillo and Auquimarca, resulting in a total of 21 people killed, mostly local authorities. The assassinations were aimed at eliminating people considered opposed to the Shining Path cause and dismantling the civil defense organizations that were forming in the area.
