Massacre of 37 villagers of Canayre, Llochegua
In February 1989, a group of more than 300 members of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) arrived in the village of Canayre, Llochegua, in boats from the Ene River. The Shining Path members killed 37 villagers, including the vigilante ronderos, and then demanded a list of landowners from the authorities, killing some of them.
En febrero de 1989, un grupo de más de 300 senderistas del PCP-SL llegó al poblado de Canayre, Llochegua en botes procedentes del río Ene. Los atacantes asesinaron a los ronderos vigilantes que custodiaban la comunidad. Posteriormente, exigieron a las autoridades una lista de los propietarios de tierras, asesinando a varios de ellos. La masacre resultó en la muerte de 37 pobladores.
