Culmination of PCP-SL's Red Month

The 'red month' of the PCP-SL culminated on June 19, 1991 with violent actions throughout the country. This period of intensified violence lasted from May 17, the anniversary of the beginning of the PCP-SL's war against the country, until June 19, a date that the subversive group called 'heroic day' in commemoration of the anniversary of the prison massacre. During this month, the PCP-SL carried out multiple attacks and armed actions as part of its strategy of demonstration of force. On June 18, one day before the end of the red month, 35 students disappeared from the Universidad Nacional del Centro in Huancayo, one of the most serious events of this period.
