Confrontation in Aucayacu

Armed confrontation in Aucayacu, Huanuco, between the Peruvian Army and the PCP-Sendero Luminoso that resulted in the death of 65 subversive members. The event occurred during the "red month" of the PCP-SL in June 1991.

In June 1991, there was an armed confrontation between Peruvian Army troops and members of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in Aucayacu, Leoncio Prado province, Huanuco department. The confrontation resulted in the death of sixty-five members of the PCP-SL who were killed by the military forces. This event occurred during the so-called "red month of the PCP-SL", a period of intense violent activity that lasted from May 17 to June 19, 1991. The confrontation was part of the III Campaign of the V Military Plan of the PCP-SL, which had been underway since February 1991.
