Disappearances of MRTA students in urban area
Between 1991 and 1993, numerous student members of the MRTA disappeared in urban areas of Junín, especially after the enactment of the Repentance Law. These simultaneous disappearances were part of a strong blow against MRTA in urban areas.
During 1991, 1992 and 1993, the MRTA suffered heavy repression in the urban areas of the department of Junín, particularly in Huancayo. Many student members of the MRTA disappeared in simultaneous disappearances. The situation worsened with the enactment of the Repentance Law, at which time many good cadres from the urban area were disappeared. This blow to the MRTA in the urban zone was part of a broader strategy that included the assassination of MRTA militants in the National University of Central Peru (UNCP), where the PCP-SL managed to overcome the parity of forces it had with the MRTA.
