1991 Teachers' Strike in Peru
In 1991, a significant teachers' strike occurred in Peru, during which the government attempted to dismantle the teachers' union, SUTEP. Durante la huelga magisterial de 1991, el gobierno buscó intencionalmente destruir el gremio docente mediante represión indiscriminada contra los maestros en paro. Los agentes del Estado utilizaron pruebas falsas para acusar de subversivos a los docentes contestatarios, tratando al magisterio como un grupo homogéneo a pesar de que la presencia real del PCP-SL en el gremio era minoritaria. Este enfrentamiento entre el Estado y el SUTEP (Sindicato Unitario de Trabajadores en la Educación del Perú) resultó en el fortalecimiento del PCP-SL, demostrando que las estrategias gubernamentales de combate solo incrementaron el conflicto y la violencia.
