CART Congress
Ordinary Congress of the Asháninka Central of the Tambo River held between July 18 and 20, 1990, which culminated in the kidnapping and subsequent assassination of three indigenous leaders by the Shining Path PCP, which led to the formation of the Poyeni Round.
The ordinary congress of the Central Asháninka del Río Tambo (CART) was held from July 18 to 20, 1990. At the end of the congress, an armed column of the Shining Path PCP, made up of more than sixty people including settlers and natives, kidnapped three indigenous leaders: Pablo Santoma Santos (president of the CART), Óscar Chimanca Chamqueti (president of the Nomatsiguenga del Pangoa Council), and Dante Martínez (defense secretary of CONAP). This assassination of the three indigenous leaders triggered a reaction from a sector of the Ashaninka, who formed the so-called Ronda de Poyeni, made up of natives of the Tambo River.
