Promotion of training of native patrols by CECONSEC and FECONACA.

In 1990, the indigenous organizations CECONSEC and FECONACA promoted the formation of Rondas or Asháninka Self-Defense Committees in Chanchamayo in response to the violence of subversive groups in the central jungle.

Since 1990, indigenous organizations in the region such as CECONSEC (Central de Comunidades Nativas de la Selva Central) and FECONACA (Federación de Comunidades Nativas Campa) promoted the organization of Rondas or Asháninka Self-Defense Committees. This initiative arose in a context of generalized violence in the Central Jungle, where both the PCP-SL and the MRTA had a strong presence. The native organizations sought to protect indigenous communities from attacks and abuses by subversive groups. The formation of these native patrols represented an organized response by indigenous communities for self-defense in the midst of the internal armed conflict.
