Entrance of hikers to the VI CART Congress in Mayapo
In 1990, during the VI CART Congress in Mayapo, which expressed rejection of the PCP-SL, 60 hikers entered the event. Three leaders were captured: Pablo Santoma, Oscar Chimanca and Dante Martinez.
During the VI Congress of the Central Asháninka del Río Tambo (CART) in the community of Mayapo in 1990, a contingent of approximately 60 hikers, composed of settlers and Asháninka under the command of HP, entered the place where the event was taking place. The congress had officially expressed its rejection of the PCP-SL. Most of the delegates managed to escape during the raid. However, three leaders were unable to flee: Pablo Santoma and two invited leaders, Oscar Chimanca of CONOAP and Dante Martinez of CONAP, who were captured by the Shining Path.
