VI CART Congress
The VI CART Congress in Mayapo officially expressed its rejection of the PCP-SL in 1990, but was attacked by a contingent of 60 hikers who captured three leaders, including Pablo Santoma. This event was decisive for the subsequent formation of the 'Asháninka Army'.
The VI Congress of the Central Asháninka del Río Tambo (CART) was held in the community of Mayapo in 1990, where it officially expressed its rejection of the PCP-SL. In the middle of the congress, a contingent of 60 hikers, including settlers and Asháninka, led by HP, entered the community where the event was being held. Most of the delegates managed to escape, with the exception of Pablo Santoma and two invited leaders: Oscar Chimanca (from CONOAP) and Dante Martinez (from CONAP), who were captured. This attack was decisive for the communities of Bajo Tambo, under Poyeni's leadership, to later form the 'Asháninka Army' or Poyeni's round.
