Increase in subversive actions of the PCP-SL in Lima

In October 1989, the PCP-SL increased its subversive actions in Lima by more than 100%, including sabotage, attacks against infrastructure and propaganda, as part of its 'strategic balance' strategy and with the objective of preventing the 1990 presidential elections.

As of October 1989, in the framework of the announcement of the arrival of the 'strategic balance', the PCP-SL significantly increased its actions in Lima with acts of sabotage and propaganda. Subversive actions increased by more than 100%, with a view to the actions to be carried out as of March 1990 with the aim of preventing the presidential elections. This stage of increase lasted until August 1990, with the main targets of attacks being commercial centers and transportation units in the capital. The increase in violence took place in a context of a serious economic crisis with hyperinflation of 60% per month and a 50% reduction in real wages.
