On July 26, 1989, nine community members were detained by military forces in the town of Colcapampa, Maní district, Oyón province. The detainees were accused of terrorism and never reappeared. This was part of the counter-subversive response in the region, where forced disappearances increased as a method of struggle against the PCP-SL. The disappearances in Oyón occurred in the context of the Shining Path offensive that had spread between 1989 and 1990 to coastal towns and the consequent response of the forces of law and order.
