Massacre at Callqui

On 1 August 1984, marines abruptly interrupted a religious service in Callqui, a village near Huanta, Peru, and killed six members of the Presbyterian Church. This event occurred during a period of intense violence and counterinsurgency efforts in the region, where religious communities were often suspected of harboring subversives. The incident highlights the tensions between military forces and local populations during this turbulent time.

En Callqui, poblado cercano a la ciudad de Huanta, los marinos irrumpieron abruptamente en un servicio religioso y asesinaron con frialdad a 6 miembros de la Iglesia Presbiteriana el 1 de agosto de 1984. Este acto ocurrió en el contexto de la estrategia contrainsurgente que consideraba los templos evangélicos como potenciales centros de apoyo a subversivos. La Iglesia Presbiteriana Nacional de Huanta emitió una carta dirigida al CONEP denunciando estos hechos.
