Confrontation in Llochegua

In June 1989, there was a confrontation between the PCP-Sendero Luminoso and the peasant patrols in Llochegua. The confrontation resulted in the death of 3 ronderos. This event occurred in the context of the intensification of Shining Path actions in the Apurimac River Valley between 1986 and 1989, a period in which the PCP-SL sought to achieve a 'strategic balance' by increasing pressure on the peasant communities.
