Chamber of Deputies approves creation of the Council for National Pacification

The Chamber of Deputies unanimously approves the creation of the Council for National Pacification, with the objective of presenting the Executive with a plan agreed with the social forces to confront violence and terrorism.

The Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved the creation of the Council for National Pacification. The objective of this council would be to present to the Executive Power a plan agreed upon with the social forces of the country to confront violence and terrorism. The approval took place in a context of a serious crisis of political violence in the country, with actions of both the PCP-SL and the MRTA. This legislative initiative sought to articulate a coordinated response among different sectors of Peruvian society to the internal armed conflict.
