The interventions were carried out in search of possible subversives. The military and police action was motivated by the distribution of flyers announcing an armed strike scheduled for May 10, 11 and 12 in the department of Junin. These interventions were part of the government's anti-subversive operations against the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in the region.
