Massacre of 37 residents of Canayre
Massacre perpetrated by the PCP-SL in Canayre, Llochegua, where more than 300 hikers came up the Ene River and killed 37 villagers, mainly landowners, after killing the vigilant ronderos.
In February 1989, a column of more than 300 hikers arrived in the village of Canayre in boats from the Ene River. The attackers first killed the village's watchmen. Subsequently, the hikers asked the authorities for a list of landowners. According to testimonies, they killed 37 villagers, selecting some landowners to execute. This massacre was part of the PCP-SL offensive in the Apurimac River Valley during the period of maximum violence.
