Fifteen UNCP students were captured accused of belonging to subversive groups. These arrests occurred after several students captured 15 days earlier took advantage of the law of repentance and gave names of university students, professors or workers, possibly innocently implicating them.
The 'Repentance Law' was enacted in May 1992, immediately after the self-coup, although it was regulated a year later. Through pressure, many detained students named names, many of them perhaps innocent. This law had a great impact on the mass arrests and wreaked havoc in the MRTA ranks.
