Discovery of Mass Graves in Peru
In October 1990, mass graves were discovered in Chilcahuaico, Ayacucho, and Chumbivilcas, Cusco, containing 17 and 18 bodies respectively. These findings prompted the creation of a congressional investigation commission. The graves were indicative of ongoing human rights violations during the early months of President Alberto Fujimori's administration.
