A Matter of the Baton

On the eve of his first 100 days in office, PPK faces the challenge of putting the agenda back on the table. The most immediate change in the presidential office is felt underfoot. The plush carpet of other administrations has been replaced by a sober hardwood floor. That applies to keeping one's feet on the ground. And no one familiar with Pedro Pablo Kuczynski could accuse him at this point of being overly swayed by power, as some of his predecessors were. But it is pertinent that, one week before completing one hundred days in power, his administration be able to look honestly in the mirror. The obvious comparative advantages of PPK—public-sector experience, knowledge of the economic machinery, a clear style and a projection of authenticity—marked his first days in office.
