The Sterilized Bodies of Peruvian Women

President Ollanta Humala raised a hot-button issue during the pre-runoff debates of 2011 aimed at candidate Keiko Fujimori: I refer to the case of forced sterilizations. During the debate, Fujimori was left without ground to stand on and unable to argue anything in her favor, so those cases — a huge unresolved debt of Fujimorismo — were one of the key elements of the current president's success. Today, one year from the end of his term, the forced sterilization cases have been relegated to the corner of oblivion.
