A Place to Stop. The La Hoyada Sanctuary

Thousands have been walking for decades in search of relatives who disappeared during the years of violence. On the outskirts of Ayacucho, the fuel tank used by the Army for the furnace in which it incinerated detainees still stands. The site, encroached upon by the garbage of nearby homes — is it a burial ground? People leave flowers there or light a candle.
