La Hoyada Memory Sanctuary in Peru: A Space for Healing and Reconciliation

The Peruvian internal armed conflict ended in 2000, but unresolved situations remain that keep many families of the disappeared in uncertainty. With the aim of healing this wound and, at the same time, contributing to the process of national reconciliation, the architects of AWAQ Estudio and Estudio SHiCRAS joined various organizations to transform a natural pilgrimage site — located in the Hoyada sector (Department of Ayacucho) — into a Memory Sanctuary, incorporating the direct participation of the affected families in its design.
