CONSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN'S MEMORY

1. SUMMARY. Memory is recollection — the persistent remembrance of something. Thus, based on the study of various bibliographic, pedagogical, and historical sources, as well as national and international legal frameworks, I have outlined the importance of education in the memory of primary school students, with topics of mandatory instruction, expressed in the incorporation of the study of the internal war — that is, its origin, its peak, and its gradual decline — with the aim of truthfully explaining events arising from violence inflicted by various groups, terrorist or state, so that students develop a collective awareness that in the face of the social inequalities embedded in our environment, the best path does not lie in violence, but in tolerance, the exchange of ideas, and the promotion of Human Rights. To this end, the State, through its governing bodies, must assume a leading role, driving concrete educational policies aimed at fostering respect for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms by the community at large. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the State must implement compulsory instruction on the events that occurred between 1980 and 2000 in the curriculum, so that teaching does not fall on deaf ears, with priority given to the childhood education sector, where students will optimally internalize the lessons imparted by educators, in order to solidify both the cognitive and the moral dimensions of their character.
