Chungui: A Long History of Conflicts and Violence
There is a similarity between what happened during the years of political violence in the La Mar area and what occurred in 1923 with the despotic attitudes of those who would become the gamonales. Between 1984 and 1988, the cruelest and bloodiest phase of the war in the Apurímac river jungle was recorded, due to the number of extrajudicial executions carried out by military patrols, the self-defense committee ronderos of the Comités de Autodefensa, and Sendero's own units.
