Armed Forces, Truth Commission, and Transitional Justice in Peru
The objective of the following pages is to analyze the discourses and strategies developed by the armed forces in response to the democratic transition and the installation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which will also help us understand the scope and limits of the defense sector reform in the period following the democratic transition, as well as the consequences that the process of political violence experienced by Peru between 1980 and 2000 — which has certainly not yet ended in some regions of the country — has on relations between the Armed Forces and civil and political society.
