ÑAKARI – Cultural Forms of Suffering After Political Violence in Peru
This article describes the various cultural forms of experiencing suffering following political violence in Peru. Since it is usually assumed that we all feel pain in the same way, no form of suffering other than the official one is conceived, and it is addressed according to the modes of our modernity, disregarding the different cultural forms of experiencing trauma. Thus, in this work, which is part of a qualitative meta-study of the psychosocial aftereffects of political violence in Peru, those cultural forms of suffering are presented, such as llakis (painful memories), pinsamientuwan (recurring worries), manchay (fear, fright), iquyay (weakness), alcansu (alcanzo, harm), llaki nuño (frightened breast), among others.
