Movadef, the Trotskyist left, and the current student resistance against Sendero Luminoso in what was once the bastion of terror. Twenty years have passed since the capture of Abimael Guzmán, and in the streets of Huamanga the weight of having been the cradle of Sendero Luminoso is still felt. The temporal milestone is critical: more than half of Ayacucho's nearly 700,000 inhabitants are under 25 and have grown up under the indirect shadow of the years of violence.
