The Investigations in the Pucayacu Case, Ayacucho
In Ayacucho, the Specialized Human Rights Criminal Prosecutor's Office is investigating the human rights violations that occurred in the province of Huanta between July and August 1984. Toward that end, an exhumation is being carried out of a mass grave in the Huanta cemetery where approximately 50 bodies were buried — bodies that were found on August 23, 1984, in the Pucayacu mass graves, executed at the Huanta Municipal Stadium by Navy Infantry soldiers. The proceeding involves the participation of the Specialized Forensic Team of the Ayacucho Public Ministry, the Equipo Peruano de Antropología Forense (EPAF) as an expert for the parties, family members of the victims, and sponsoring institutions.
