Forced Sterilizations in Peru. Women's Time and Their Memory
This is the story of how this work came to be — how from the political activism of publicizing what the forced sterilizations were, I moved to reflecting on them and carrying them into another realm: that of research. It has been, and continues to be, difficult to put into words something that surpasses your skin, that is pure feeling. But this is the time when Peru is boldly and powerfully daring to remember; remembering has become a decisive political act, and memory is also, simultaneously, destiny. In the conviction of leaving a record, of tracing the marks of what thousands of Peruvian women lived through, we embrace this work — so that when we speak of forced sterilizations in Peru, no one will ever again say to us: "What is that?"
